ATLANTA, GA - Randy S. Crispen, 38, decided to heed the call to save Tibet when he spotted a "Save Tibet" bumper sticker placed just below a “One of my other cars is a Prius” sticker on a Hummer H2 during yesterdays afternoon rush hour.
Crispen's decision came while he was stopped behind the bright yellow Hummer at a stop light at the intersection of Peachtree and 5th Street. Crispen, who is a medical supplies salesman by trade and drives a 2001 Xttera SUV, plans to act as soon as this weekend when international telephone rates are lower.
Mr. Crispen described the epiphany encounter: "There I was flipping around the radio dial and I look up and there's a bumper sticker. Nothing fancy. It simply says 'Save Tibet.' Well, that's all it took. It finally sunk in. It's time I got off my fat butt and had it out with China's Hu Jintao. I'm going to give that commie a piece of my mind. And just ask my wife – I can be pretty darn forceful on the phone. He won't know what hit him. Anyone got his number?"
After he explained how the People's Republic of China was repressing the Tibetians and making them live way up in some crazy place in the mountains in colorful but not very warm robes, Mr. Crispen was able to convince Judy Wahley, who runs the Just Meds switchboard, to pen an angry note to Jintao. Beth Hunney, the office manager, said she was moved and felt sorry for the Tibetons, but she really had to get over to Office Depot before they closed.
Mr. Crispen spent his lunch hour composing an open letter to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's op-ed page. In the letter addressed to the Dolly Llama, Mr. Crispen pleads, "Your Llamaness, please find time in your Around-The-World vacation tour to stop in Atlanta so that new Atlanta converts to the Tibetonian revolution can stand outside your Ritz Carlton suite and be told you'll be out as soon as you see if Richard Gere gets the Oscar. People like me could really use some pamphlets or something to give us some ideas how we can help. I was thinking I could write a check to help cover the limo costs of your world tour or maybe you might want to pass that money on to your poor people back home up in the hills."
Anyone from Atlanta wishing to Save Tibet is asked to send $100, $250 or $500 donations in lieu of flowers to: Dalai Lama c/o Richard Gere P.O. Box 4955 Beverly Hills, CA 91201.
